Bulgarian donuts
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
½ sachet of baker’s yeast (in powder)
3 tablespoons milk
2/3 cup warm water
½ teaspoon of sugar
½ teaspoon of salt
Sunflower oil
Preparation:
Stir the yeast with the sugar, salt, milk (warm) and 1 tablespoon flour. Cover and let rise in a warm place. Sift the flour into a bowl, make a well and pour in the yeast. Add warm water and make a soft dough. Cover with a piece of transparent film and let rise for 1 hour.
In a pan, heat at least 1 cm of oil. Take a bit of dough (of the size of a plum) and stretch it with your fingertips, shaping a small misshapen circle. Dip it in oil and fry until the underside is golden. Turn the donut and cook on the other side. Transfer the ready donuts on a piece of paper towel to remove excess fat.
Serve the donuts almost immediately, garnished with sugar, honey or jam.
